Volunteer
Volunteering with Old Courthouse Theatre is a great way to meet people, have fun, and support your favorite local community theatre. We always need volunteers to help with ushering, concessions, box office, set building, sound and lighting, event planning, outreach and more.

Must audition

Usher
Greet audience members, guide them to their seats, and provide assistance throughout a performance.
Box Office
Assist with ticket sales, answer questions about shows, and manage reservations.
Concessions
Sell snacks and beverages to our patrons.
Sound Design*
Works with the director for setting up sound effects, music, etc.

Sound Board Operator*
Runs the sound board during dress rehearsals and all performances.

Light Design*
Works with the director to design lighting requirements for the show.

Spot Light Operator*

Set Design*
Works with the director to plan and design sets, direct set building team.

Work with flats, wood tools (saws, drills) under direction of set designer.

Works with the director and set designer to paint flats and items needed for the show.

Make costumes/Pull costumes/Find costumes.

Assist with costume changes during shows when quick changes are needed.
Prop Master*
Pull props/Sort props/Acquire props.

Cleaning
Assist with cleaning the theatre: sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, clean windows, clean bathrooms, take out trash.
Outdoor Maintenance
Clean gutters, power washing, weed eating, mulching, trimming.
Light Electrical Work
Change outlets and switches, repair light fixtures, change light bulbs.
Heavy Electrical Work
Change circuit breakers, install new circuits.
Grant Writing
Work Calls
Work call dates are essential to the operations of Old Courthouse Theatre. Volunteers will help build sets and carry out behind the scenes work. Work call dates will be posted as they are scheduled.
Annual Fund
Since 1976, Old Courthouse Theatre has served Concord and our surrounding communities with quality theatre programming. Our productions have included many recognizable plays and musicals. We will soon embark on our 50th Season, the Golden Season.
OCT is proud of its 212-seat Main Stage Theatre and our 75-seat Black Box theatre. Our space includes a dedicated dance hall/rehearsal space, scene shop and storage, prop and costume storage and administrative spaces. Through the work of many volunteers, we have tackled numerous facility improvement projects. In addition, OCT has received grants that have made several improvement projects possible.
In 2023, OCT developed a comprehensive capital plan to stabilize our 100-year theatre building and 60-year-old Annex. The capital plan includes facility stabilization, improvements to lighting and sound, painting and carpeting in public spaces and infrastructure improvements. A conversative cost estimate for the work is $1.8 million dollars; to date we have addressed a percentage of work.
Our 2025-2026 Annual Fund hopes to address several needed projects and provide additional funds for our reserve fund. OCT’s Board of Directors has approved this plan, and we are now seeking support from the Concord area. The plan includes the following items:
- Main Stage Lobby: Ceiling and Floor Repair, New Paint, New Flooring, Electrical
- Black Box Theatre: New Chairs
- Wireless Microphones and Support
- Wi-Fi – Network Improvements
- AED Units for Main Stage and Black Box Theatres
- Reserve Fund
Our goal is to raise the $50,000 needed to support these six (6) priorities.
Donate
For 50 years, Old Courthouse Theatre has used your donations to keep our productions running, season after season. Your donation will allow a child to see her first play, or a high school student to learn how to light a stage. Your donation will allow us to carry on the story started in 1976, by Mary Snead Boger and help carry us into the future.
