To look back on Old Courthouse Theatre’s past is to see a rich, successful, highly-acclaimed history of hundreds of plays that each held a special moment for OCT audiences, creative teams, and volunteers. This level of work comes, at times, with a fairly hefty price tag. With the added cost of owning and maintaining a building, our local community theatre needs much more financial support than ticket sales can provide.

Over the course of its impressive 51-year history, Old Courthouse Theatre has tackled numerous facility improvement projects and worked diligently to maintain and upgrade many aspects of its property. Historically, OCT has relied primarily on generous grants and an impressive amount of volunteer hours and labor to accomplish these annual undertakings.

In 2023, OCT developed a comprehensive capital plan to put many improvement and stabilization plans into action. A conservative cost estimate for the work is $2.5 million dollars; to date OCT has addressed and completed a percentage of the planned work.

With a goal of $35,000, our 2026-2027 Annual Fund hopes to address several needed projects and provide additional funds for our reserve fund. OCT’s Board of Directors has approved this plan, and we are now seeking support from the Concord area.  The plan includes the following items:

  • Protect the extensive costume inventory by providing heating and cooling to the costume shop and work room.
  • Begin building Hollywood style flats (lighter and safer to use) to replace the 25-year-old flats.
  • Add signage in the lobby area to help patrons better locate restrooms, concessions, and the auditorium.
  • Supplement our new heat pumps with a traditional hot air furnace to take the demand off the heat pumps on the coldest days.
  • Upgrade the electrical service in the scene shop.

OCT’s 2025-2026 fund drive, which was highly successful, provided new chairs for The Wilson Family Black Box, new AED Units, improvements to the Wi-Fi network, and wireless microphones.

Donations to this year’s annual fund drive will help set the stage for this season and many seasons to come. OCT can’t be a community theatre without our community.

Agatha Christie is a world-renowned suspense writer with 66 detective novels, 6 romance novels (under the name Mary Westmacott), 150 short stories, and 25 plays to her credit. OCT’s up-coming production, Spider’s Web , brings us the only comedy in Christie’s collection and her second-longest running play in London next to A Mousetrap : Spider’s Web . Spider’s Web’s plot revolves around Clarissa, wife of a diplomat, who has an active and vivid imagination and is adept at spinning tales of adventure and deceit. When a murder takes place in her drawing room, she finds live drama much harder to cope with. As the investigation takes its twists and turns, no one can tell if Clarissa is telling the truth! With this conscious parody of the detective thriller, Christie delivers a unique blend of suspense and humor. There are tension and laughter in equal parts in an intricate plot of murder, police, drug addicts, invisible ink, hidden doorways and secret drawers. Who done it? Veteran director Stuart Jonap brings his adept vision and leadership to the classic comedy/suspense story, leading a cast of both seasoned performers and novices. OCT veterans include Jonathan M. Ewart, Sarah Ganddini, Maggie Garrido, Brian Rassler, Roger Watson, and Aaron Zimmerman. Joining them are new-comers Jake Dailey, Lou Delassandro, Michelle Hooker, Collin Hoskins, and Luke Tyrell. Spider’s Web is supported by the talented veteran OCT design team of Kim Baysinger (Costumes), Roger Watson (Set), and Megan Delgado (Lights). The second show of the season also rings in the start of our Annual Fund Campaign. OCT’s goal this year is $35,000 with funds this year being appropriated for needed structural, electrical, and facility improvements. Can you unravel the mystery before the final scene? Agatha Christie’s Spider’s Web runs October 8-18. Tickets are available at www.octconcord.com or 704.788.2405.
